There's a satisfaction in not spending $100 a year on a costume you'll never wear again and buying individual pieces you can pair with other outfits year round. So here's a list of fashionable costumes that you can most likely wear outside of Halloween as well! We hope this is helpful in the mad last minute scramble for the smallest bit of costume inspiration.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love how wicked, whimsical, and creative it is. It unleashes everyone's imagination, even the most dull people you know. I also like how it is a family holiday in a way (for little kids). It brings people together: family (if you have a little kids), friends, and neighbors alike!
Who
Harley Quinn - The Joker Girl
Recognizability:
High
Ok, maybe not everyone would know she is a super villain from Batman, but it is pretty obvious, she is a joker. Learn more about her here.

Leather Leggings
High Boots

Harley is a great character to be for Halloween, since she already has so much Halloween spirit: whimsical and wicked. If you are a comic fan, that's even better! If not, being a girl joker is a lot of fun anyway. You can put together this costume without hitting a Halloween store: get some fashion pieces and wear them again after the party. Especially if you are a fan of high boots, get two pairs of them, black and red; then wear one of each to achieve the black and red alternating effect.
Leather Leggings: Yves Saint Laurent (cheaper altnative: AA leggings. Xiang loves it!)

Who
Yayoi Kusama
Recognizability:
Low, but definitely visible
Yayoi is a Japanese artist and writer. She once checked herself into a mental institution in Tokyo. This year she collaborated with LV and created a line with polka dots (see the complete lookbook here). The line also influenced all LV's store presentation.

Polka Dots
Red Hair
Red Lipstick
Even if you don't wear LV, you probably have noticed the bold red polka dot tentacles in many LV stores' window display. They are created match the collaboration between Yaomi and Marc Jacobs and it has Yaomi written all over it: polka dots over bold red. This could be a great excuse for those of you who have been wanting to get some pieces from this collection: because that is the easiest way to pull off this costume. Yaomi might not be as recognizable as many other characters, but the costume is definitely going to be very eye catchy, so you can use this opportunity to start a conversation at a party :D
A cheaper alternative would be tape on cutout polkadots on a red shirt, with some accessories like red polka dot purses and glasses. But make sure you tape them very well and get a decent red shirt. It is a costume for a high fashion collaboration after all.

Exaggerated Minnie Mouse ears and any other high fashion pieces you are hesitant to wear
Minnie Mouse, like Cat Woman, is one of the most common and loved Halloween costume every year. But Minnie Mouse has also been a loved theme in the Fashion industry: Lady gaga stole the spotlight in London Fashion week by wearing a . Many designers have taken a spin on Minnie's (or Mickey's) signature ears. Minnie also makes an appearance at Barneys New York's holiday window display this year. To be Minnie on the Runway is a very open theme, as long as you got the signature ears look, everything else could be any high fashion pieces you put together.

Jen:
I love coming up with Halloween costume ideas! It's a chance to look back on what happened this past year that was visually stunning and how I can find those same items at the thrift stores. I especially love putting together costumes that you can't find at the store.
Who
Suzy and Sam from Moonrise Kingdom
Recognizability:
Depends on how many Wes Anderson fans you know
For those who have never seen Moonrise Kingdom, it's a heart warming tale about two of the most fabulously dressed kids who live in 60's and are trying to run away so they can be together. The Costume's visibility does depend on who has seen the movie, however Wes Anderson is no strange name to cinema.

60's Retro Chic
There are a surprisingly low number of movies this year that have been able to produce iconic looks for their characters. Sure Looper and Magic Mike may have been some of the more stand out films this year but do you really remember what they're wearing as opposed to films like Black Swan and Drive that came out last year? We may not remember the plot of Drive in the future but we'll never stop associating that movie with that iconic scorpion jacket. Natalie Portman gave an unforgettable performance in Black Swan however, her make up and costume will give you chills to remember for decades. It's unfortunate I can't get that feeling from any movies that have been out this year!
The movie that comes the closest to a memorable wardrobe is none other than Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. Anderson is a man that always gives his characters a very unique iconic look and Moonrise Kingdom is not different. You still see people galavanting around in red beanies and blue jumpsuits on Halloween so I wouldn't be too surprised if we saw a few Khaki scouts this Halloween.
If you're looking to stay chic this Halloween and love 60's style just as much as I do then Suzy Bishop is a must for those who can find a cute little pink dress and a pair of saddle shoes!

Kickass Superhero Women
Recognizability:
High
High Fashion Element
Skin tight suits
Fashionable Masks
Red Lipstick
This year brought us two incredible superhero movies, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, and with it came two of the most badass yet interesting female superheroes to date. Anne Hathaway's Catwoman was not only sexy and sly but she also showed a sensitive side that gave her character more depth than the typical sexy jewel thief that Catwoman usually is. To this day I still claim that she is the best female character Christopher Nolan has ever brought on screen. Also, who doesn't want to strut around this Halloween in a skin tight black suit and cat ears?
Another major female superhero was obviously Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow. No one can get over the shots of her in a skin tight suit and the marketing of the movie couldn't get over showing how good her butt looks. Not only did she look ever so lovely in a skin tight navy suit, she does most of the intelligent work that a lot of the male Avengers can't. Do we love kickass women or what?

G-Dragon
Recognizability:
Low, unless among a lot of K-pop enthusiasts
Despite being a male, I still think G-Dragon is still the one of the best looking Korean female figures I've seen.
High Fashion Element
Flawless Rainbow Hair
Fashionable Clothes
If you want to show off some studs, leather, and a load of awesome hair then G-Dragon is always a good choice for any Halloween. The dude cannot look more androgynous and some days I wish he were a female just because it's unfair how beautiful he is. This costume is perfect for all those that already own some incredibly fashionable studded leather jackets and want to show off some cotton candy hair!
