Hopeless Wanderer

Even the most dainty girls will find their inner tomboy when faced with the wild. It's hard not to have a fascination with nature when you live in the northwest. Most of my summer weekends tend to be spent more in the woods than in the city. I'm quite a wild wanderer but I've never mixed fashion with the outdoors and mainly because outdoor fashion is more function than flair. This week, however, I was able to combine fashion with an amazing hike to the ghost town of Monte Cristo. Can I have my cake now please?

Stay Warm – Winter Coat Picks 2013

Zara 2013 Lookbook
No matter how fabulous you're dressed, a coat will always be something that dominates your outfit. So a beautiful coat is the best investment you can make to make sure you stay warm and look good everywhere you go. Just shopping for them has been a blast. How can we not love something that keeps us so warm and fashionable? Today we bring you our favorite coat trends of the season and hope you enjoy our picks!

Make It Blush
Black or navy blue is usually the go-to color for a winter outfit, but this season I am a big fan of pastel pink. Needless to say no other color presents femininity like pink, and I love the color for it. It also brings a touch if warmth and softness to your winter closet.

Keep it Short
It is nice to switch from big puffy winter coats to something hugs our figure more. And leather is the best material to block the wind and help you stay warm. Also you can take this chance to look like a tough chick. The color-blocking jackets also seem fun to wear!

Plaid it with a Twist
I never really like the traditional red and black alternated plaid. In my opinion they are too "lumber jacky" for girls. But once the color alteration goes lighter: the mix of cream and pink, or simply black and white, I find them very interesting and high-fashion.

Mid-length Yet Not Mediocre
I've been finding a lot of mid-length coats around this season. Although I still want everything cropped, I definitely have come around on this trend for some of these beautiful coats. The length sits well with the ruffle skirt trend this season and also looks great with shorts. I love coats with a little bit more of a harder edge when braving the weather but it doesn't mean that a delicate-looking coat won't keep you just as warm.

A Postcard from Portland

Jen looked at my outfit and said "This is a very grunge." Then we jumped into her car and I heard her GPS saying "Directions to abandoned site." Jen had to explain to me it is not really a sketchy abandoned site I imagined. Instead, it was a burned down factory in an industrial part of the town, and it was not far from downtown area. We actually had some shoots there before.

A fun fact: none of the outfit items belong or originally belonged to me. The vest and dress are again from my friend Michelle from our clothing swap. The fierce shoes are from Jen and you probably have seen her in them a couple times. For those of you who have not done clothing swap yet with your friends, I highly encourage it. It is a good way to make room in your closet, but at the same time you know your clothes will be given new life by your friends. Also you can pick up some good pieces as well!

I picked the following 3 themes for beachwear: Retro Sporty, Neon Pool Party and Lady Like. I've always been a fan of retro styles in fashion. This year, the uniforms from Star Trek struck a chord with me, I like the streamlined simple design and how well fitted they are. I translated that style into retro sporty beachwear. The simple lines would really accentuate one's body, doesn't matter you are lean or curvy. As for neon, I've never personally wore any neon beachwear, but whenever I see other girls in neon at a pool party, they always stand out and give out a fun party vibe. Lastly, if you are more of a lying- down-and-get-tanned-with-a-margarita type, maybe you'll like more feminine pieces from Anthropologie. Also don't forget your floppy hat: that is one of the most identifiable pieces for a fine lady on the beach.

How can you be sexy in a swimsuit without being too revealing? This year's mesh trend provides a tasteful solution to that problem and already I'm in love. I also love the integration of stark black and whites into swimwear but above all, that Grace Kelly pool dress is to die for! Lastly, I decided to include some classic swimsuits that are so darling they will be relevant for decades of fashion to come.

Urban Air

Photos by Annie Teng
Last year I missed Urban Air Market, where my friends got some unique accessories, so this time I was very pumped to check it out with the girls. The market takes place twice a year in SF Hayes Valley. So if you missed the one, you can catch the Fall Market on Spet 15th. The fair did not disappoint – all five of us got some goodies: from unique designer jewelry pieces, and high quality infinity scarfs to hand painted designer toys.

To dress for a street fair in SF, some must-have pieces: layers and easy to walk shoes. The zara jacket works so great. It is super soft and I really like the detailing striped inside lining. It also tones down and complements the amount of laces I had all over. :)
