Fall is the perfect time to let a warm coat shine in the sun. Mid length coats have been especially popular this year which makes it a bit harder to shop when you're short. I love a slim fitting coat however it's difficult to wear a longer coat without heels. This style is growing on me though and I do love the asymmetrical cut of this coat as well the contrast arms and collar. My favorite part is that there's not much else like it on the street.

First Day of Fall

Saturday was the first day of fall so I wanted to show off the skirt that I will be rocking all of fall. Even though the sun still shines between the grey clouds and the showers, nothing says fall more like the dropping temperature and the dropping leaves. I got this skirt in the mid 2000's when the layered bottom was still popular. However the asymmetrical cut was really odd back then but now I feel like it fits in well with the high-low trend.

Flowers in Your Hair

"Good flowers are hard to find," I said to a boy once. "You're telling me." He replied as he tucked a yellow flower behind my ear. This same sentiment applies to a lot of things for me and rompers happen to be one of them. I love the idea of them but there are so few good ones out there. So how do we find a romper that is not only flattering but also doesn't remind everyone of overalls? The answer, for me at least, is to find one that could be mistaken for a dress. I was lucky to find this beautiful romper at Forever 21 before it flew off the shelves and I'm addicted. It flows so elegantly in the wind and really shines on a sunny day. I think I already know what I'll be wearing all summer long.

Wood is definitely an odd element to have in clothing but some designs can work it in beautifully. It may not look comfortable to walk on wood but these shoes are more stable than they seem and comfortable to boot! I get a ton of compliments whenever I wear them, from all sorts of women. However, my favorite thing about them is that they don't look like just any old shoes. It's hard to find a pair that is the least bit similar and it feels good to have something so fabulous be uniquely your's.

In the Mood for Being Purrrfect

It is no secret that I am obsessed with cats. Those little fuzzy creatures play with the string of my heart with every move and sound they make... Ok, that was a bit too romantic and dramatic. I am not a crazy cat lady like this lady on eHarmony.

However, as a cat whisperer who runs a fashion blog, of course it is only natural for me to own one or a couple pieces of clothing with cat images. While I'm in love with the pattern of this dress, it took me some time to figure out how to wear it. The dress itself is shapeless (no waist-line), and it is completely see-through.

The first thing I always try with shapeless dresses is adding a belt to it, so it doesn't look like a potato sack on me. Jen, also being on the petite side, used the same technique to wear a red dress on NYE. Choose the belt's thickness and color based on the dress and the shoes you plan to wear. Accessories make an outfit complete. 

There are two ways I wear a sheer dress outside the bedroom. The more modest way is to layer a sheer piece on top of a nude tank-top. However, if you feel comfortable, and the occasion allows, you can turn up your sexiness by wearing a simple bra (no excessive embroidery or decoration, not too padded) inside.

In the Mood for a Bright Rainy Day

After living in one of the rainiest cities (Seattle) for 4 years, I like wearing bright colors on rainy or gray days. This strategy is a good way to lighten up your mood as well as combat Seasonal Affective Disorder that can be a side effect of the gray weather. These orange sweater tights keep me warm and also compliment the t-strap open-toe heels as well.

When the weather outside is frightful, a short sleeve or 3/4 sleeve sweaters may not do you any good. However, with a pair of arm warmers, you can look cute and stay warm at the same time (they are quite useful. See previous post where I wore a pair). I like how lady-like they are and they do keep you warm :).

For those of you who have been considering getting a clear bubble umbrella, let me tell you: don't hesitate anymore. They are great! Not only are these umbrellas quite the style statement but they're very practical as well since they block the wind better than normal umbrellas. You can also see straight through them rather than having to stare down at your feet while walking in a storm.

In the Mood for Japanese Fab - Uniqlo + Muji

Ever since the grand openings of Muji and Uniqlo in SF recently, the two have definitely been hot topics among SF's hip crowd. This past weekend I had the chance to stop by both.

Muji opened their first store on the West Coast a couple weeks ago and I was surprised by their store location choice. It is located in a fairly low-key neighborhood called SOMA, a neighborhood that still seems to be trying to establish its identity and houses only a few retail stores. Muji's clean white square store with the dark red accent definitely stands out from afar. But on the other hand, this low-key, almost invisible design matches the brand's modest and minimal style.




The two-story store is not huge but very well planned out. Half of the first floor has some clothing and winter accessories. The other half is for stationeries.

The second floor is designated for furniture and other various house-hold items such as kitchenware, indoor slippers, and hangers. No matter the product though, everything is displayed beautifully.

Got some goodies

The store itself is a pleasure to visit. You can find some well-made, clean-cut wear and pick up some minimalistic notebooks for work or school. If you have some extra time, go upstairs and check out the wonderful Japanese version of Ikea with some nice quality stuff.

It was super exciting when I heard that Uniqlo chose to open their first US store outside of Manhattan in SF earlier this year. Their marketing also chose to partner with the most famous internet cat, Maru, to promote this opening. (This Japanese brand sure knows what's cute. This holiday season they teamed up with Pusheen to spread more holiday cheer.) The store is conviniently located in downtown SF, near the Powell Street cable car turnaround. The store display is flashy and very well-lit.

I went to the SF store with the same expectation from my NY SOHO Uniqlo experience, but I was let down. Seems like there are less collections in the SF store for both men and women compared to what I remembered from my NY visit. The store itself also seems more ordinary than trendy. But I'm still happy that there is a Uniqlo in SF since it is one of my go-to brands for some fairly priced basics and their heat-tech undershirts are great for winter layers. If you haven't noticed, I am a huge fan of Uniqlo's knee-high socks and tights.

In the Mood for a Heart in a Cage

You might see an abundance of posts about sweater dresses as winter continues. There's nothing I love more than waking up in the morning and just throwing on a sweater dress without a second thought. Socks and tights will help keep your legs warm through the day and there's nothing more convenient or warm than a large sweater layered with a good jacket.
